The Difference Between Self Love & Concept of Self – and What You Need to Manifest – Reader’s Submission

Self love is a big topic in the manifesting community and something that is seemingly difficult to grasp. Funnily enough, Neville never spoke about self love directly or said it was needed to manifest. He spoke about the concept of self, he spoke about being love, embodying love, but he did not use the term “self love”. So what does it have to do with anything? Why are some people so set on self love being a necessity – and is it?

To clear up the big question “Do you need to have self love to manifest?” from the start: No, you don’t. Your desires are a promise, whether you feel worthy of them or not, whether you love yourself or not, whether you feel good about yourself and your life or not.

It is done and you just need to accept that it is. Nothing can stop it. So, no, you do not need self love in order to manifest. I worked on loving myself for years and I can say I truly do love myself and have for a while but even when I first did, my desires did not instantly appear in the external reality. This only started happening when I changed my concept of self, when I accepted my desires as God-given and done and here now, and when I realised that I was God and everyone and everything else was just me pushed out.

Before that, I did love myself…but I struggled to manifest consciously. Likewise, there are plenty of unhappy millionaires – people who manifested a fortune for themselves but did not have any self love. There are people in beautiful, loving relationships who are full of self loathing. Just because you don’t love yourself does not stop you from having your desires.

Despite all this, I am a big advocate of self love – but it is not a tool to manifest. I am going to tell you how I define self love, but bear in mind that this is my perception and opinion – and your view can be totally different. You make your own rules! To me, self love is the complete abandonment of shame. Radical (self-)forgiveness. Unconditional love and compassion – no matter what.

“Faith is believing what is incredible. Hope is hoping when all things are hopeless, and Love is forgiving the unforgivable.”

– Neville Goddard, Love Endureth

How Self Love Can Help with Fears and Doubts

Do you know those moments, when fear, doubts and anxiety overcome you? This is a good moment to be kind to yourself. God does not know fear. God only knows love. There is no fear in love. This means any negative thoughts won’t have any power over you anyway, unless you let them.

You are God having a human experience and this is just the human in you having a little moment. It does not mean anything. When you are able to love yourself you will be able to see these moments of fear and doubts as meaningless, not as failure. You will be able to embrace them and not beat yourself up over “slipping up” or “reversing your progress”. It can’t go wrong anyway. It does not matter if you react to your external reality unless you think it does. It does not matter if you have a day of panic and doubts and crying unless you think it does.

Imagine this situation: You are a parent watching your child learn how to walk. The child falls once. The child falls twice. And again. And again. What do you say to your child? Do you say: “What is wrong with you? Why are you not learning this?! You should be able to walk by now! All the other children your age can walk! Will you EVER learn this?” No! You would encourage the child. You would shower this baby with love and help them get back up and try again. Because you KNOW eventually they will learn. There is no other way. Treat yourself like a parent treats the child learning how to walk. With loving kindness and compassion. With the knowing that nothing can go wrong.

To me, this is self love. And when you love yourself, you love others. When you love others, you love yourself. Because there is no separation.

“Love is the ultimate reality.”

Your Concept of Self – What You Really Need to Manifest

“Change your conception of yourself and you will automatically change the world in which you live.”

– Neville Goddard, Your Faith is Your Fortune

Your Concept of Self should be the first thing you look at when it comes to manifesting. Do you identify yourself with someone who is “bad at mental diets”? What are your assumptions about yourself? Do you truly believe you are God and you can have anything you want? Do you look for blockages and limitations? Because God does not. To consciously manifest ANYTHING you want, you don’t need self love, you only need to realise who you really are  – the infinite being that is God. Love yourself by reimagining yourself.  Once you truly change your concept of self, accept that you are God and that everything and everyone else is just you pushed out, it is easy to have good assumptions about yourself.

“Do not be embarrassed when I tell you that you are God. Instead, walk believing you are that important. You don’t have to become arrogant, but you must assume you are God. Think about it! Stop believing in God and start believing as God. Do this and the visions will come to confirm your assumption.”

– Neville Goddard, The Mystery of Inspiration

If you desire financial freedom, view yourself as someone who is abundant. View yourself as someone who is wealthy. View yourself as someone who is deserving of whatever you want. If you desire to be in a committed relationship with a specific person, view yourself as someone they want to commit to. In fact, view yourself as someone people want to commit to in general. View yourself as someone who is wanted, who is desired, who is admired, who is loved. You will often find that when you change your concept of self to someone who can have whatever they want, to someone who has full control over their reality, to someone who is loved and abundant – you will naturally start to love yourself. Likewise, if you work on loving yourself, you may find it easier to have these assumptions about yourself  – that you are worthy, that you are deserving, that you are loved. Because love is who you are anyway. You are all there is. You are love. You are infinite consciousness. You are awareness.

“Always remember who you are, for you are love, the one and only reality of the world, and that, which endureth forever.”

– Neville Goddard, Love Endureth

Self love is not a tool to manifest. The only thing you need to manifest is the assumption that it is already done. But loving yourself may help you to have compassion with yourself. It may help you to remember who you really are (God). It may help you to live in the end, persist in your assumptions and dwell in your desired state.

You don’t need to love yourself. But why wouldn’t you want to?
